Karen Durand joined African Education Outreach in 2016 and became a board member within the same year. She assists the organization with fundraising events and outreach.
Mrs. Durand has been an educator for over 25 years and accepted the position of school principal at Saint John Catholic School in North Charleston in July of 2016. She is also one of the Lego Robotics coaches. During the 2023-24 school year, her students connected with faculty and students from Kassie Braun Memorial School during the robotics season as part of their innovation project research. The team was able to speak to the Kassie Braun students on multiple occasions and later donated two robots to their school through fundraising efforts.
Mrs. Durand is also a board member of the Walk for Autism and a parishioner and Parish Council member at St. John Catholic Church in North Charleston.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Charleston Southern University and a Bachelor’s Degree in English with a minor in Education from the College of Charleston.
