Dear friends, God’s grace has brought us to another period of thanksgiving! I wish you and your loved ones a blessed Christmas. As I reflect on the year that is ending, I see many reasons to give thanks, and I pray that you will also find in your lives many reasons to be grateful. In 2024 I had the pleasure of being with the students and staff for three weeks. My review of our mission calls for celebration, a celebration of what God is doing with and through us. We have 23 academic staff members, 14 non-academic staff, and 3 armed security agents providing us with a total of 40 men and women on our payroll. That is 40 families we are directly supporting! The new academic session began in September with the school enrollment of 35 new students bringing the total number of students to 77. The increase in the number of students is delightful. The breakdown of the population is as follows: - JSS1 (7th grade) –16 students; JSS2 (8th grade) –15 students; JSS3 (9th grade) –11 students; SS1 (10th grade) –19 students; SS2 (11th grade) –16students. Of these 77 students, we are supporting 26 of them. The family situations of 8 of these students are so bad we have to offer them a full scholarship of room and board and school supplies. Let me share with you the story of some of the girls in our scholarship program. I want to focus on Mary, Jeraldine, and Precious among the six most vulnerable girls we are supporting. We have carried them since the 7 th grade and now they are teenagers. They are the girls who are not happy to leave the school for any holiday because they are not sure of any meal at home. At school they are assured of their daily meal. They are the students who return to school with no provisions nor snacks because their parents can’t afford them. They are the students who do not have sanitary products for feminine hygiene. The sisters have been supporting them in this area. As challenging as life has been for them, they are always happy and are doing very well in their classes. I invite you to share in their joy because you are helping them to achieve their dream of getting a good education. Our school has a strong academic foundation and has already gained the reputation of being the best school in town. They work closely with the Economist Educational Foundation in the UK that provides materials on teaching news literacy which enhances creativity, problem solving and critical thinking skills. During the last academic year, the students participated in the Topical Talk Festival. The program brings students from different parts of the world into one global space to discuss topical issues. In this competition, KBMS students came in 6th position in the Global Discussion Award out of over 300 participating schools around the globe! Currently, they are in a national essay competition organized by the United Bank of Africa on reducing carbon emissions in Nigeria. For the upcoming year, they are collaborating with the Alex Ekwueme Federal University of Nigeria to teach 3d animation to the students. This program connects with the annual project of the school derived from their Sustainable Development Goals. The children will work on different design works and will present by the end of the academic year in July. INFRASTRUCTURE: We acquired 3 sets of inverters to augment what we have. These will support the CBT Center, classrooms, science laboratory, library and pumping station. We are getting closer to completing the 14-bedroom staff complex at the school. This should take care of our staff accommodation crisis. Right now, some staff members are staying in dorm rooms that would typically be for student use. Kindly consider helping us to install doors, windows, plumbing, electrical fittings and furnishing. You and your loved ones will be remembered at the Holy Masses I will celebrate this Christmas season. God bless you for all you do. We pray our progress brings you as much joy as it has to me. God bless you! Sincerely, Rev. Fr. Dr. JohnBosco Ikemeh
